The power to choose

Image
It was a cloudy and rainy day. A typical one in which you can easily find yourself wondering about your life, your job, how much deep are the wrinkles on your hand, what could have been if ten years ago you had choosen that path instead the one you actually chose and so on.  Within a few seconds you decided to wear your old running shoes and go outside despite the weather. You took a deep breath. How much clean is this air?  You found yourself lost in your thoughts more than ever and suddenly you started to run, no matter what. The thick air whispering through your hair and ears, that sense of liberation. A warm hug for your soul.   In less than twelve steps you were far from home and more happy than ever to be there. Not because you felt uncomfortable at home, but just for the happiness to be there, for having consciously chosen to be there, to have found a minute for you.  You were wet and dirty but you were free.  What are you waiting for?  #KENBRUSH #WalkThinkBreathe #TheOriginalWa

What can we learn from a tree?

Image
Freehold it’s a small and quite township in New Jersey, probably best known due to Bruce Springsteen, who spent there his childhood. You can taste the legend’s smell everywhere through grocery stores and BBQ restaurants, but there are also a lot of beautiful and natural parks. I was walking lonely, deeply focused on my past, but also trying to chill and get new inspirations for our new menswear collection. Then I find a young tree, solid and alone, standing in its natural beauty. It reminds me of the giant California’s sequoia and also a very beautiful passage I read some years ago, taken from a very interesting book written by CĂ©sar Hidalgo, visiting professor at Harvard University - Why Information Grows: The Evolution of Order, from Atoms to Economies: "Consider a tree. A tree, in its semi-"frozen" state, is a computer powered by sunlight. A tree reacts to the length of the day, running a different program in the summer than in the winter. It figures out

Why are big brands simplifying their own logo?

Image
You have probably noticed most of the biggest brands operating in fashion industry are cleaning up their own style and logo. Basically they re-designed their historical distinctive logo by adopting a more linear and reassuring Sans-Serif font. There are mainly two reasons for this revolution (involution?).  The first one could be ascribed to the possibility to appear more flexible and being able to easily adapt to new trends and influences, as an empty bucket, for emerging styles and designers. The second one, seems to be originated from the desire to appear more global and less linked to the original dominant white-male-class, which gave the birth to the majority of the luxury European brands. Whatever could be the real reason, we are certainly observing to an erosion of the value originally generated by competent artisans, who were able to realize unique and recognizable brands among all others. Since of medieval age, noble families used to design their coats of

Have you ever heard about Memphis-Milano?

Do you remember that joy? That sense of immense positive thrill: “What will be tomorrow?” during the 80’s?  Well, probably wasn’t only thanks to the economic growth, the technological innovation, the space adventures or the inspirational new wave music. Maybe also the colors and the fashion pattern played a crucial role. Have you ever heard about the Memphis-Milano designers?  If not, please take a look at those stunning geometric colorful motif. Aren’t they super cool and futuristic also nowadays? Designer Ettore Sottsass founded the Memphis Group with other designers and architects in 1981.  Sottsass centered the group’s thinking around “radical, funny, and outrageous” essentially, disregarding what was considered in “good taste” at that time.  Here is the website: https://www.memphis-milano.com/ What do you think?

What is art?

Image
We live in a totally technological driven world.  Everything is based on data that spreads through anything. Buying a metro ticket or some strawberries in a store can originate a huge flow of data to be stored and analyzed on a later stage. It seems all predictable or easily alterable.  Well, sometimes it's not. What exactly do you think when you are staring in front of a Seurat painting or you are covered in tempera colors while playing with your kids? Isn't this magic? Those thrills and breath-less inspiration you experienced. It's yours only! Let's try something funny here. Next time you will buy a potato, try to imagine it like a blank sheet to fill with your own creativity. While you are peeling it, draw something special, tailor it with your best ideas. Well, it won't be exactly a master piece, but it will surely be a small piece of art. Your hearth.

Behind a quiet guy

Image
How many times at your workplace, you encountered quiet people? Often are very kind and silent ones, who prefer to stay out of the crowd and not being involved in arguing, if not really needed. They usually spend coffee break alone or with other two or three people. They prefer to breath some fresh air during lunchtime or simply go out for a walk. Sometimes those people are confused/accused to be introvert and narrow-minded, or even worst weak and haughty. Actually, most of them are brilliant and competent people who like to be simply as they are. Guys and girls with a new family to take care of, who are dreamer, passionate with exploring the world, plus, they usually read a lot. If you are lucky to meet one of them, you will discover that their typical day could be something like: • Waking up early in the morning. • Feeding the dog/cat. • Changing baby's diapers. • Managing all the house stuff, in a rush. • If time remains, having a quick breakfast. • Taking kids to kindergar
